A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives responsible for carrying out the administrative functions of Panchayat Raj institutions. In the case of a Gram Panchayat, it is the main committee that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and manages the day-to-day administration.The main components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. The President presides over meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President: Performs the duties and responsibilities in the absence of the President.Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Sub-committees formed to facilitate decision-making in areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

Marayoor Grama Panchayat is one of the prominent local self-government institutions situated in Devikulam Taluk of Idukki District, Kerala. Renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and rich historical heritage, the Panchayat covers an area of 108.70 square kilometres and has a population of 17,462 (2011 Census).The Panchayat consists of 14 wards and is well known for Kerala's only natural sandalwood forests, Megalithic dolmens (Muniyaras), prehistoric rock paintings, and the famous Marayoor Jaggery.
